The annual COPi Cup Invitational Pro-Am presented by Legistics celebrated its 10th anniversary over the weekend, with this year’s event raising $270,000 for the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation’s scholarship fund.
The event’s 10-year total increased to $1.62 million raised, providing a significant boost to fund scholarships for students pursuing higher education.

We celebrated camaraderie, competition and charity with the usual style and fun. And, as COPi Cup founder Phil Frengs said, “I am again blown away by the generosity of this growing family. The spirit of love and giving from friends, new and old, has allowed us to reach new records for annual giving to our SCGA Junior collegiate scholarship fund. I am so grateful.”
Santa Ana CC took home both tournament titles
Defending champion, Marcus De La Rosa, PGA, who captained one of Santa Ana CC’s three teams in the field, finished the event at 7 under par and became COPi Cup’s first back-to-back pro winner.

For the team competition, the Santa Ana CC team led by Drew Buddle, PGA — and comprised of RJ Kosich, Chris Nelson and Robert Welch — edged out previous champions (North Ranch CC) by one stroke, securing their first team trophy.

“The COPi Cup has always been a special golf tournament and it rose to an even higher level for its 10th Anniversary,” said SCGA Junior Golf Foundation Executive Director Kevin Gigax. “With great competition and generous giving from our participants, the bar has been raised for the impact this event can have on our program. This will significantly elevate what we can do to support our scholars in the 2022-2023 school year.”
The Foundation has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships since 1983. If you’re interested in learning more, please click here.
